Planning Permit Consent for bushfire affected properties:

As part of a government initiative, changes have been made to the Murrindindi Planning Scheme to make it easier for people to rebuild their homes and farms destroyed by the black Saturday bushfires. The changes allow for a variety of buildings to be replaced without needing to comply with the normal requirements of the planning scheme (except for properties in the Heritage Overlay).

A planning permit will not be required and a new streamlined process has been put in place that only requires the approval of a site plan which is obtained by submitting a Bushfire Planning Consent Form. The site plan is able to be approved at the same time as building permits are issued.

The information required on the site plan includes such details as property boundaries and dimensions, location of any damaged or destroyed buildings, and the proposed location of replacement buildings.

Whilst the changes to the planning process are designed to aid a speedy rebuilding process, landowners will still require a building permit to ensure structural safety and implementation of the new bushfire requirements.

Applying for a regular Planning Permit:

Whether or not a planning permit is required for your proposed development will depend on the following:

  • the zone in which your property is located
  • whether any overlays apply to the land
  • whether the development is subject to any particular provision

To find out whether a permit is required for any aspect of your propsal, you will need to arrange a time to talk with one of Council's planning officers.

If a Planning Officer advises that you require a planning permit for your proposal, you need to:

1. Complete Council’s Planning Permit Application Form. If you are experiencing difficulty with the completion of your application please refer to the following document for assistance: How to complete your Planning Permit Application Form .

2. Prepare the appropriate Supporting documentation.

3. Submit all documents along with the Appropriate Fee to Council.

Amending a Planning Permit:

To amend a Planning Permit, you will need to lodge the appropriate Application to amend a Planning Permit form . If you are experiencing difficulty with the completion of this application please refer to the following document for assistance: How to complete an application to amend a Planning Permit .
