Roadside Slashing Program
Fire preparedness is a high priority for Council. Roadside slashing forms part of a comprehensive range of fire prevention activities across Murrindindi Shire.
Our fire prevention slashing program is aimed at reducing fuel loads on roads identified by the Municipal Fire Management Planning Committee as being important to the overall strategic approach to fire prevention throughout the Shire. The works are primarily aimed at asset protection and maintaining vehicular access/egress. For this reason, not all areas receive the same level of works and the scheduling of the works is consistent with risk.
Council’s 2018-2019 fire prevention slashing program is starting earlier than usual this year. We will begin our slashing program in early October and will aim to finish the first cut of slashing in the Shire by the first week of December.
This early start is due to a predicted dry season and through discussions with the community, particularly in the Kinglake Ranges, who have been requesting that their slashing program begin earlier in the season.
As a result of the early start, some areas may require further works later in the season. These will be completed as required.
