Have your say
Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ campaign was designed to help inform the creation of Council’s new four year Plan. We created a survey to help us find out what you want for the future of the Shire. We asked three questions:
1. What do you value about living in your community?
2. What would make your community a better place to live
3. What do you think Council should focus on over the next four years?
Surveys were located at 37 distribution points across the Shire (in addition to Council Offices and Libraries). It was also distributed online, via Facebook and through print media and radio. Councillors and Council staff also attended a number of events to maximise reach of the engagement process, including 13 ‘pop-up’ stalls at markets and other community gatherings and 17 community meetings.
Council heard from over 1600 respondents to the survey, representing almost 12% of the Shire’s population of 13,595. This is a fabulous response from the community.

Council also visited 12 schools engaging with around 400 students (primary and secondary school aged).

Four community workshops were then held across the Shire in Alexandra, Kinglake, Marysville and Yea to help prioritise and further develop ideas from the survey. 120 people attended these workshops.

As a result of the survey and with the support of the participants in the community workshops, Council now has four 'themes' in its Plan:
- Our People
- Our Places
- Our Prosperity
- Our Promise
A range of activities will flow from these themes, which will be the focus of Council's work.
The Draft Plan, including the Strategic Resource Plan will be out for public comment during the month of May and will be available on the website to download.
