Thanks to a grant from the Victorian State Government, Murrindindi Shire Council is offering a free desexing, microchipping, worming, vaccination and registration package for valid Pensioner Concession Card holders in our community who care for any cat, whether owned or stray.
Council’s Purrfect Care Program aims to reduce cat overpopulation and address the issue of feral cats by making desexing services free to pet owners who need it most
Feral cats threaten the survival of native wildlife in Murrindindi Shire and are a major cause of decline for many land-based endangered animals across the country, including the bilby, bandicoot and numbat.
A major contributing factor to the feral cat overpopulation problem is people feeding unowned cats but not taking full ownership or responsibility for them. The Purrfect Care Program will help prevent unwanted litters, ensure lost cats can find their way back home, minimise diseases and promote responsible pet ownership.
Eligible Pensioner Concession Card holders are encouraged to submit an online application before 6 December 2024 through the form below.

Council’s Purrfect Care Program is made possible through the Victorian State Government’s Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program and support from local veterinary clinics.
If you are not a Pensioner Concession Card holder, Animal Aid Coldstream is offering free microchipping for up to two cats/kittens to Murrindindi Shire residents. For more information visit the Animal Aid website.
Murrindindi Shire Council’s CEO Livia Bonazzi said “Keeping our cats healthy and safe is the responsibility of every cat owner, whether you care for your own cat or your neighbourhood stray. This benefits our feline friends and also supports our environment and the diverse species that share it. We recognise that many in our community may find it difficult to access the necessary resources to take full responsibility for the ownership and care of stray cats, which is why we are pleased we can offer this Program. We strongly encourage all eligible cat owners to participate in making our environment safer for all.”
