Council, in collaboration with its library partner Yarra Plenty Regional Library (YPRL), is rolling out a brand new Library Management System and Library App, which provides a one-stop shop for all of our wonderful library services.

Council’s Director Community Engagement Shivaun Brown said the free App will be available from Wednesday 2 December via the Apple Store or Google Play Store, depending on your device.

‘Many of our library members are already used to accessing our services from our existing app. But change is afoot, and we think the new app will offer our members a much better user experience.

‘Our new app is designed by SOLUS and is used in over 200 councils throughout Australia and New Zealand.

‘For those of you who are new to using a library app, once the App is downloaded on your phone, you can access the resources available at your library from anywhere! This means you can discover our broad range of eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks, newspapers, music, social media posts and more.

‘The mobile App has extensive integration with the new Library Management System, so using it will give you much greater control over how you use our library resources. Members will be able to log in to their account and other linked accounts (such as their children’s or elder care accounts) and have full visibility over their loans and reservations. You will be able to extend loans, add/cancel reservations remotely from anywhere and even arrange a click & collect (reservation) pick up from your local library branch.

‘In order to bring this fantastic new service to our customers, some of our existing online services will be temporarily unavailable from next Thursday 26 November through to Tuesday 2 December. While members will be able to return items via the return chutes or over the counter, there will be a lag in updating your borrowing record. But don’t worry, this will be sorted when we are back online. And we are extending overdue items for the month of November until 24 December 2020 (and don’t forget that we are a fine-free library service).

‘As part of this great project, SOLUS will also be giving us some additional functions available from our website. From 26 November to 2 December, you’ll only be able to see the main YPRL web page and you won’t be able to login to your library account or access online resources. However, you will still be able to access our public computers at your local branch through your own personal login details and you can print and photocopy to your heart’s desire!

‘From 2 December, it’s all systems go again. Our website will have some great new information and you will also be able to access the library catalogue and login to your user account direct from the website.

‘We expect this new technology will help our libraries meet your changing needs, now and into the future. We can’t wait to get our customers using the new App.  It will be available to download from 2 December, so check it out.’ added Ms Brown.
