Events Support

Overview

Currently we are in unusual circumstances with the Coronavirus pandemic, for this reason Council are working to ensure that our Grants and Contributions Program best serves the community as the impacts emerge. The grant program funds will be made available, however particular grant streams may be changed to meet community’s needs.

Events Support Grants provide financial support to businesses and community groups/organisations to develop sustainable events that grow tourism within Murrindindi Shire and grow employment in the tourism sector.

There are two levels of Events Support Grants:

Small or New Tourism Events

Typical projects

Events that attract local and regional visitors and that:

  • showcase local arts or producers

  • strengthen community

  • fundraise for not-for-profits or charities

  • engage with the Shire's nature based assets eg cycling, water based events

  • attract repeat visitation eg annual events

  • span two or more days

  • occur in the 'quiet' event periods in the event calendar

Expected outcomes

Events are expected to deliver one or more of the following outcomes:

  • have projected attendance of 1000 persons or more

  • will attract local and regional visitors

Events of State Significance

Events of State Significance Grants provide businesses and community groups/organisations with support for events that will attract large numbers of visitors from within Victoria.

Typical projects

Funding will be allocated to marketing and other associated event costs that attract a large number of statewide visitors, such as:

  • events that are part of a recognised event series eg A Day on the Green

  • marquee events that have a major sponsor/promoter associated with them

  • nationally recognised competitive events

  • significant State or National trade shows/expos

  • multi-day events 

Expected outcomes

Events are expected to deliver one or more of the following outcomes:

  • have projected attendance of 1000 or more
  • will generate additional overnight stays and maximise repeat visitation
  • align with Council's key product/experience or marketing strengths
