Make a significant difference in our community!

At Murrindindi Shire Council, communication is more than just delivering information – it’s about building trust, strengthening connections, and celebrating the people and places that make our Shire special.

As our Communications Officer, you’ll play a key role in how we share stories, deliver timely updates, support community engagement, and promote the work Council is doing to improve the lives of our residents. Whether it’s crafting a media release, designing a newsletter, supporting a local campaign, or responding during an emergency – your work will help shape how our community sees and interacts with Council.

You’ll be part of a team that values collaboration, creativity and continuous improvement. If you’re passionate about meaningful communication and ready to contribute to something bigger, this role is your opportunity to make a real and lasting impact across our Shire.

About this opportunity

We’re looking for a dynamic Communications Officer to support and deliver a wide range of media, digital, and internal communications. This role is central to implementing Council’s Communication and Social Media Strategies and shaping the way we connect with our community.

As Communications Officer, you will:

  • write and coordinate media releases, advertisements, and speeches
  • support emergency communications and issues management
  • create engaging content across print, digital and social media platforms
  • design flyers, newsletters and visual content using Canva and Adobe tools
  • maintain and monitor Council’s website and electronic direct mail (EDM) platforms
  • provide strategic advice and training on social media use across the organisation
  • support internal communication and the management of digital tools
  • capture and create photo and video content to tell our local stories

This is a hybrid role offering flexible work arrangements and the chance to make a real impact in one of Victoria’s most naturally beautiful and community-driven regions.

What you will bring

  • Tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in communications, media and digital services.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to create high-quality content under tight timeframes.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail, with the ability to absorb and communicate complex information clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships across the organisation and with local, metro and sector media.
  • Proficiency with digital platforms, Microsoft Office and Adobe tools, including design and photo/video editing software.
