Murrindindi Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Community Recovery Officer who will support the community of Murrindindi Shire in recovery after the January 2026 Fire events and deliver on the Fire Recovery Plan.
This position will work with communities to identify needs, develop and deliver local recovery and resilience programs, assist in accessing information and resources, and provide leadership and community capacity building.
The role requires providing a high level of customer service when dealing with general enquiries from internal and external customers and presenting a positive image that demonstrates Council’s commitment to high standards of service delivery.
About this opportunity
This role is a new opportunity at Council, delivering our response to the Longwood Bushfire January 2026 event. The successful candidate will provide an interface between Council and the community, delivering on actions within the Murrindindi Shire Fire Recovery Plan. You will be valued for your knowledge or experience in working closely with communities to support recovery, strengthen partnerships and develop community- led initiatives.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Engaging with local community groups and individuals to understand the evolving issues impacting community recovery, facilitating discussion and providing a conduit for community feedback back to Council
- Identifying local priorities and engaging with Council departments, key agencies and community to deliver on outcomes and actions within the Fire Recovery Plan
- Building partnerships and networks with residents, business, community and special interest groups across the Shire.
What will you bring
By joining our team, ideally you will have:
- Relevant qualifications or experience in social work, social sciences, community development or community welfare. Substantial community development/community recovery experience (desirable).

Demonstrated knowledge of community development and disaster recovery principles, practices, standards, and related disciplines and awareness of contemporary trends and issues and their application and impact

Proven capabilities in community engagement, community development, business development or related discipline or experience delivering programs across community.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build partnerships and consult with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver services using initiative and creativity.

Well-developed communication (written and oral) and facilitation skills and experience in managing group dynamics.

Demonstrated experience and ability to organise and plan workflow, set priorities, manage a budget and meet deadlines to address the position’s key responsibility areas.
