Citizen of the Year Awards

Murrindindi Shire Council Citizen of the Year Awards 2024, will be presented during National Volunteer Week in May (20-26 May 2024) – providing the perfect opportunity for everyone to celebrate the contributions of people in our communities.

In the past, Award recipients were presented at community-led Australia Day events across the Shire. The nominations we receive for the Awards are overwhelmingly for significant voluntary contributions that community members have made, so we believe aligning the awards with National Volunteer Week will provide a chance for everyone to celebrate and recognise the wonderful work our volunteers do.

Three awards are presented to members of the community. Recipients receive these awards in recognition of their inspiring volunteering in Murrindindi Shire.

For more information on the Awards, visit The Loop project page.

Our 2023 Awards recipients are:

  • Murrindindi Shire Citizen of the Year - Sarah Southam
  • Murrindindi Shire Young Citizen of the Year - Alastair Gerrey and Kirk Mercuri
  • Murrindindi Shire Senior Citizen of the Year - Bob Emblin
  • Murrindindi Shire Community Group of the Year 2023 - The Alexandra Truck Show Committee

A list of the past Awards recipients can be found in our Previous Awards Recipients document(PDF, 95KB).

We will continue to support community members and groups who usually run events for Australia Day, including by providing funding assistance and promotional support to Australia Day events.
