Council has some exciting opportunities to join our Resource Recovery team as a Resource Recovery Centre Operator. These roles play a significant part in Council’s commitment to make a difference to our environment by contributing to the effective operation of our Resource Recovery Centres (RRC). The RRC Operator will support initiatives that aim to increase the recovery of reusable / recyclable materials and, in turn, reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.  

About this opportunity 

 In this role of RRC Operator, you will:

  • Provide a high level of customer service and share relevant information regarding waste and disposal options based on customer queries.

  • Receive acceptable materials and collect disposal fees in accordance with Council’s schedule of charges.

  • Accurately operate and record all transactions on Council’s electronic waste recording tool on tablet including EFTPOS receipting and accounting for all materials deposited.

  • Ensure the appropriate placement of materials deposited and ensure prohibited materials are not accepted at sites.

  • Manage the appropriate clearance of materials from the sites.

  • Maintain safe, secure and clean sites.

What you will bring 

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Demonstrated interest in the waste management field and commitment to recycling and environmental values.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills when dealing with the public.

  • Good physical fitness and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety to handle heavy/awkward materials appropriately with the ability to work/walk on uneven ground and stand for extended periods.

  • Good numeracy and reading skills (at a successful completion of Year 12 level or equivalent).

  • Ability to operate technology and equipment such as a tablet and EFTPOS machine.

  • Hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence to enable travel between RRC site locations as required.

Important Information about these roles

The RRCs operate over weekends and some weekdays therefore successful applicants must be willing and able to work a roster that may vary key days for these roles. In these part time positions you will be guaranteed a minimum hours per week working shifts which may include up to 5 consecutive days in a 7 day period and additional hours offered based on the roster. In accordance with 32.2 Special Engagement of the Murrindindi Shire Council Enterprise Agreement your hourly rate of pay will be $39.55 per hour inclusive of a 25% loading (effective January 2025 based on Band 2A).

We have two positions available:

Position One: will be primarily based at our Kinglake Resource Recovery Centre and will be guaranteed a minimum of 17 hours per week across fixed days of Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday each week. 

Position Two: may be rostered at our RRC’s in Eildon, Marysville, Yea and Alexandra and is guaranteed 6 hours per week.  The hours and days are more flexible for this position.
