Clarification on Removal of Non-Compliant Signs at Rubicon

Council wishes to clarify the recent removal of three signs placed within the 80km zone on Council-managed roads in Rubicon.

Under Council’s Local Law, signage on public land must meet specific safety and compliance requirements. Officers routinely remove signs that do not comply, regardless of the message, to ensure road safety and consistency.

In this instance, the signs were removed following concerns raised by community members. Where the person or business responsible for the signs cannot be identified, as in this case, officers take direct action. Where signage owners are known, Council contacts them and requests removal before intervening.

The signs are available for collection by prior arrangement, and Council officers are happy to advise community members on how to display signage safely and lawfully in accordance with Community Local Law 2020 – Section 41. For assistance, please contact Council on 5772 0333 or customer@murrindindi.vic.gov.au

Council remains committed to supporting respectful community dialogue and ensuring that all processes are applied fairly and consistently. We take this opportunity to encourage engagement on broader issues relating to renewable energy.

Feedback for our Draft Guidelines for Successful Renewable Energy in Murrindindi Shire is currently open on The Loop, providing an opportunity for our community to share views on environmental and heritage values, tourism, and wildlife.
