Murrindindi Shire Council and the Australian Museum hosted a captivating online webinar for FrogID Week, with in-person screenings in Kinglake and Yea on Wednesday 5 November, to learn about the FrogID project and why frogs matter.

Nadiah Roslan, Project Coordinator of FrogID from the Australian Museum Research Institute, a biologist with extensive experience in climate biology and conservation, hosted the webinar.

The presentation included an introduction to the FrogID project, why frogs matter, the importance of citizen science projects, frog species that can be found in Murrindindi Shire, unique frog species and their calls, and how to get involved using the FrogID App for FrogID Week (7 to 16 November 2025).

Following the webinar, Kinglake attendees explored local ponds and a creek in Kinglake West to discover local frogs.

Murrindindi Shire Council sustainability and assets portfolio Councillor Sue Carpenter enjoyed the event at the Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre.

“Partnering with the Australian Museum again this year has allowed us to bring this wonderful event back to Murrindindi. Frogs form an important part of our diverse ecosystem, with Murrindindi Shire home to a rich variety of species. By learning how to identify frogs by sound, you’ll be empowered to take part in protecting these fascinating creatures.”

“Whether you're a nature enthusiast, student, or simply curious about frogs, this is your chance to get involved and enjoy the great outdoors in Murrindindi. Download the FrogID app, head outdoors for a frog discovery adventure, and take part in this national citizen science project. FrogID Week may end on Sunday 16 November, but you can search for frog sounds at any time of the year.
