Following the Longwood Fire Event, which significantly impacted Murrindindi Shire and Council operations, Council advises that the Road Management Plan - suspended at the end of January 2026 as an emergency response measure - has now been reinstated.  The suspension was in place to allow Council to focus on fire response, community safety and recovery works. As of today, Tuesday 7 April, the Road Management Plan has been reinstated for all roads across the municipality, except for those directly impacted by the Longwood Fire.

The Road Management Plan will remain partially suspended for a further 6 months for approximately 450 km of Council-managed roads within fire‑impacted areas. This restricted suspension is required while Council works with funding agencies to enable recover and reconstruction works to occur.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Livia Bonazzi, has determined that sufficient access, workforce capacity and system functionality have been restored to enable a return to normal service delivery under the Plan for non‑impacted roads. Council will therefore resume its standard inspection, maintenance and repair schedules in accordance with the Road Management Plan where it has been reinstated.

While the restricted suspension remains in place for fire‑impacted roads, Council will continue to prioritise works based on risk, safety and available resources.

Updates will be posted on Council’s website, social media, and other public channels.

Council thanks the community for its patience and understanding during the emergency response and recovery period.
