Tree removal at 18 Twenty First Street Eildon

Murrindindi Shire Council would like to inform residents within Eildon of Tree Removal which will be occurring at 18 Twenty First Street. As part of the process to assist Council to develop the land at 18 Twenty First Street, Eildon, an independent arborist report was requested.

The report assessed the health and structure of the trees on the site; from this report a retention value was assigned to each individual tree located at 18 Twenty First Street.

Many factors can influence whether a tree or group of trees are suitable for a development site, and the arborist report sorted trees into the following retention value categories:

• Trees of low retention value are unsuitable for retention. This includes weed species, trees displaying poor structure, or trees at the end of their life expectancy and trees easily replaced.
• Trees of medium retention value can be retained if they do not hinder the design process. These trees may not be outstanding specimens but do contribute to the landscape.
• Trees of high retention value are recommended for retention and worthy of design changes. These are trees that are outstanding examples of the species with a long-life expectancy.

After assessing the trees at 18 Twenty First Street, Eildon:

• 8 trees were given low retention value.
• 10 Trees were given moderate retention value.

The dominant trees within the site are made up of Eucalyptus viminalis (Manna Gum) and Eucalyptus camadulensis (River Red Gum). Both are species not considered compatible within small residential blocks, and all trees within the site are proposed for removal in the week starting 5 January 2026.

A landscape plan has been prepared and proposes planting of 48 additional trees and a number of shrubs within the site and additional street trees are proposed. Suitable timber that can be reused such as Eucalyptus camadulensis (River Ged Gum) will be donated to a volunteer group within Shire.
