Catalyst Home Care

Catalyst Home Care

If you are over the age of 65 (or over 50 for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people) and you need some help around the house then Catalyst Home Care is here to ensure that older residents of the Kinglake Ranges can continue living safely, independently, and with dignity in the community they call home.

Rural communities face unique challenges when accessing aged care and in-home support services. For older residents, this can result in delayed support, reduced independence, and, in some cases, the need to relocate from their community earlier than necessary to access care.

Catalyst Home Care addresses this challenge by creating a locally coordinated care network that connects older residents with support workers who already live in the community. By partnering with established service platforms, including HomeMade and Mable, the project combines the strengths of national systems with local community delivery.

This model is particularly suited to rural communities because it:

• Reduces travel distances for support workers
• Builds a reliable local workforce
• Keeps employment opportunities within the community
• Strengthens community resilience and self-sufficiency
• Enables older residents to remain connected to their community

Supporting older residents to age in place is especially important in rural areas where community ties, family networks, and local identity play a significant role in well-being.
