Shaping Murrindindi's Future strategy update

Our Local Development Strategy, Shaping Murrindindi's Future, is active and progressing through community groups and Council.

The Local Development Strategy sets out six innovation opportunity areas. Each area has an Innovation Working Group and all groups welcome new members.

Here are our latest updates:

• The Farm Forestry Futures group has secured funding to identify the best ways to expand farm forestry in the Shire. It is also assessing the feasibility of an interpretivecentre and a small scale timber processing facility.
• Beyond the Black Spur are focusing on tourism branding and identity for the south east corridor of the Shire. Current work includes farm gate food experiences and newtracks and trails around Marysville. A grant application has been submitted to progress the next stage.
• The Circular Economy group is refining its focus on food waste. It is exploring opportunities created by Council’s kerbside collection of Food Organics Garden Organics.
• Sustainable Agriculture, Aquaculture and Horticulture work continues with sector leaders and the Department of Agriculture to plan for the land surrounding the Yea Saleyards.
• Under Advanced Manufacturing, Council has applied for a grant to activate industrial zoned land across the Shire. This will support expansion by current manufacturersand encourage new enterprises to establish locally.
• Health, Aged Care and Social Assistance engagement is underway on a draft plan to address workforce challenges across the Shire.
