Water tanks
Rainwater tanks should be professionally constructed and made of non-toxic, corrosion resistance material. If the water tank is close to the house, it might be worth thinking about metal tanks instead of plastic as they can melt and cause issues in the event of a bushfire.
The size of the water tanks you install will depend on your requirements. In Bushfire Prone Areas, at least 10,000 litres needs to be put aside for fire fighting purposes.
Tanks should be sealed to prevent insects, vermin and other animals entering. Filters should be fitted if the collected water is to be used for drinking and roofs and gutters should be cleaned regularly. Unsealed tanks also pose a risk to children.
