Aquatics Duty Manager

The Duty Manager of a pool plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the facility while providing an enjoyable experience for all visitors. The Duty Manager is a crucial link between pool patrons, lifeguards, and other staff members, ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.

About this opportunity

The duty manager ensures that all aspects of the pool facility run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance. They monitor and maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the pool and surrounding areas, support a team of lifeguards, create work schedules, allocate tasks, and provide training and guidance to staff members. This position requires a balance of managerial skills, safety awareness, and customer service to create a positive and welcoming environment for all pool users.

  • Lifeguard certification  CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Prior experience in lifeguarding is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Basic computer skills for administrative tasks.

Important information about first aid and lifeguard training:

  • To be eligible to start work as a Duty Manger, you must obtain a valid lifeguard certificate and a current First Aid certificate. These certifications are not required at the time of application but must be completed and submitted to council prior to beginning employment.
  • To support you in completing the pre- requisite training, group training sessions have been organised. You can also organise your own training.
  • We understand that training can be a significant upfront expense. Therefore, if you attend a Council-arranged training, Council will cover the initial cost on your behalf and invoice you mid-season, giving you time to budget and pay for the training.

First Aid Training  

  • You must hold a current First Aid certificate prior to completing the lifeguard refresher course.
  • CPR is included in the lifeguard refresher, so your CPR qualification does not need to be current before attending.
  • First Aid certificates are valid for three years. Please check your expiry date to ensure your certificate is up to date.
  • You must hold a valid First Aid certificate that is current until at least April 2027 for your lifeguard qualification to be accredited.

First Aid Dates available:

  • Full Course - Sunday 30 August, Alexandra, 9.00 – 12 noon approx, $170
  • Update Course - Sunday 6 September, Alexandra, 9.00 – 11.00 am approx, $80

Please note: 3 hours of online course work is required to be completed prior to attending the course.

Lifeguard and Lifeguard Refresher Training

  • 19 & 20 September – Lifeguard Training, Seymour, 8.30 am – 5.00 pm, $365 (CPR included) (TBC)
  • 3 October – Lifeguard Refresher, Seymour, 8.30 am – 5.00 pm, $215 (CPR included) (TBC)
  • 4 October – Lifeguard Refresher, Seymour, 8.30 am – 5.00 pm, $215 (CPR included) (TBC)

Compulsory Training dates:

  • 24 & 25 October, Council induction (Shire Hall, Alexandra), 9.00 am – 1.00 pm
  • 7 November, Alexandra Pool Induction, Alexandra Pool, 8.00 am – 12 noon
  • 7 November, Yea Pool Induction, Yea Pool, 1.30 – 5.30 pm
  • 8 November, Marysville Pool Induction, Marysville Pool, 8.00 am – 12 noon
  • 8 November, Eildon Pool Induction, Eildon Pool, 1.30 – 5.30 pm

Please note: you will only be required to attend one pool induction
