Nourishing Neighbourhoods Partnership

Overview

Nourishing Neighbourhoods is a VicHealth-funded partnership working to strengthen the local food system across Mitchell Shire and Murrindindi Shire Council. The 3-year project runs from June 2025 to December 2028.

The goal is to work together to ensure all residents can access fresh, affordable, nutritious and culturally appropriate food, while supporting strong communities, a healthy environment, and a resilient local economy.

Terms and conditions

What can be funded?

  • Salaries, short-term project staffing or sub-contracting.
  • Participant or volunteer support expenses, including costs to reduce barriers to participation.
  • Equipment, materials or other items.
  • Minor capital works, infrastructure (including IT infrastructure), building works or assets, not exceeding 20% of the total project funding value.
  • Organisational overheads when incurred as a direct result of the funded project.
  • Resource materials and costs related to the publication and/or other translation of research findings.
  • Research and evaluation costs.
  • Any other costs associated with delivery of the funded program or work.
  • Organisational capacity-building that will contribute to sustained benefit to the community.

What cannot be funded?

  • Equipment, materials, staffing costs or overheads not directly related to implementation of the project.
  • Purchase of land.
  • Health service delivery, early intervention, treatment or rehabilitation.
  • Reimbursement for expenses already incurred, or funded by another source.
  • One-off events, fundraising or activities with no sustained benefit to participants or community or delivered without connection to health promotion activities (Note: events that support the delivery of coalition strategies and aims are permitted, however events delivered in isolation and without connection to coalition activities are not eligible for funding).
  • Tertiary level education qualifications, e.g. enrolment costs of a diploma or degree at the tertiary level.
  • Purchase of food for food relief, or any other food relief related expenses.

Requirements

Please make sure your organisation:

  • Is a registered incorporated association, not-for-profit (or has an auspice arrangement) or small business (with a community focus).
  • Operates within Mitchell Shire and/or Murrindindi Shire.
  • Holds current public liability insurance.
  • Can deliver the activity during the funded time period 1st July 2026 - 30 May 2027.

Only one application per organisation will be accepted.
