Council lodges submission to 2026 Fires Inquiry

Published on 24 April 2026

A country road runs through dry farmland toward a massive smoke cloud from a bushfire, with clear blue sky visible beyond the smoke.

Murrindindi Shire Council has lodged its submission to the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the 2026 Summer Fires, ensuring the experiences of our community are formally represented.

The submission outlines the scale of impact across the Shire, key challenges faced during response and recovery, and the reforms needed to better support rural communities into the future.

With nearly half of all structures lost across Victoria occurring in Murrindindi, Council is advocating for a fairer, impact-based approach to recovery funding and stronger support for small rural councils.

Community members are encouraged to read the submission and stay informed as the Inquiry progresses.
