Kerbside Collection Services
Council’s kerbside collection service for residential properties uses a four-bin system, which includes:
- Food and Garden Organics (FOGO) bin - green lid
- Mixed Recycling bin - yellow lid
- Glass Recycling bin - purple lid
- General Rubbish bin - red lid
This four-bin system supports better waste sorting and helps recover more valuable materials. Learn more about each of these services and what can go into each bin below.
Food and Garden Organics (FOGO)
The Food and Garden Organics bin accepts all food scraps, even those that don’t normally go in a household compost, including:
- vegetable and fruit scraps and peelings
- out of date and leftover food of all types
- dairy, meat and bones
- citrus and onions
- eggshells and shellfish
It also accepts garden refuse including:
- lawn clippings and fallen leaves
- prunings (such as rose clippings)
- weeds, including noxious species like blackberry and belladonna (deadly nightshade)
General Rubbish
You can put the following items in your general rubbish bin:
- soft and hard plastics - other than recyclable plastics
- nappies
- baby wipes
- broken crockery
- general household rubbish
- kitty litter
- cat and dog poo
- dirty tissues and paper towels
- silicon moulds, lids and seals.
Mixed Recycling
Recyclable items must be placed loose in your mixed recycling bin – not in bags. Items need to be empty not necessarily clean. A quick rinse is typically adequate to reduce smell in your bin.
The following items are acceptable in the mixed recycling bin:
- plastic bottles e.g. milk cartons, shampoo container
- plastic containers e.g. takeaway containers
- aluminium food and beverage containers e.g. drink cans
- tin cans
- paper e.g. newspapers and magazines
- aluminium foil (balled up to tennis ball size)
- cardboard
Glass Recycling
You can put the following items in your glass recycling bin:
- glass bottles such as wine, beer, spirits, olive oil, etc.
- glass jars and containers such as jam, pasta sauce, condiments
Labels and lids can stay on. And a quick rinse of the empty glass will suffice, it does not need to be spotless.

Business and Commercial Zoned Properties
Businesses and commercial properties across Murrindindi Shire can access the kerbside collection service in a way that suits their needs.
For commercial properties with no residential dwelling, the kerbside service is optional. Eligible businesses can choose to opt out entirely and make alternative private waste arrangements if preferred.
An ad-hoc collection service is also available for businesses that do not require a regular kerbside service. This allows bins to be requested and serviced on an as-needed basis, providing flexibility for seasonal or low-volume waste generators.
Use the link below to request a service change or arrange an ad hoc collection.
