Most rural properties across Murrindindi Shire now have access to an improved kerbside collection service designed to support better recycling with the standard service including three bins:
- a red bin for general rubbish
- a yellow bin for mixed recycling
- a purple bin for glass bottles and jars
An optional green bin for food and garden organics is also available to residents who live along Council’s collection routes.
Food and organic matter must not be placed in the red-lidded general rubbish bin. Placing incorrect materials in bins may result in contamination notices or fines. Using the correct bins helps reduce landfill and ensures valuable materials are recovered and recycled appropriately.
If you live in a rural area along Council's collection route, you will need to sort your rubbish and recycling into three streams:
- glass recycling bin (purple lid)
- mixed recycling (yellow lid)
- general rubbish (red lid)
If you wish to receive a Food and Garden Organics service (green bin) complete the form below to start the service.

It might seem like a small thing to sort your waste properly, but it makes a big impact when we all do it correctly. Recycling well and reducing waste in the first place helps keep valuable resources out of landfill so they can be used again and again.
Households who generate larger volumes of rubbish or recycling can request additional bins.
