Community leaders come together to shape the future of events
Published on 22 May 2026
Ideas, collaboration and community spirit were front and centre at the 2026 Murrindindi Events Forum, as event organisers and volunteers from across the Shire gathered in Strath Creek on Wednesday 13 May, to share practical ways to build stronger, more sustainable local events.
Hosted at the Strath Creek Public Hall by the Strath Creek Progress Association, with support from Murrindindi Shire Council, the Forum focused on helping local events thrive for the long term through environmental responsibility, volunteer attraction and community resilience.
More than 30 attendees took part in discussions and presentations covering practical sustainability initiatives, volunteer retention strategies and opportunities for greater collaboration between event organisers across the region.
The Forum created space for community groups to exchange ideas, learn from shared experiences and strengthen connections with others working to deliver local events through Murrindindi Shire.
This event is part of Council’s Community Capacity Building Program, supported through funding from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action Community Development Fund.
While our Community Capacity Building Program comes to an end in June, Council will continue working with local communities and event organisers to support vibrant and sustainable events across our Shire.

Council’s Economic Development, Local Jobs and Skills Portfolio Councillor, Sandice McAulay said the Forum highlighted the importance of events for our local community and economic growth.
‘Events play a vital role in strengthening our local economy, creating jobs and building the skills and capacity of our communities. It was inspiring to see so many passionate organisers and volunteers come together to share ideas and support one another, helping ensure events across Murrindindi continue to grow and thrive into the future.’
‘Thank you to everyone that supported this event, from the hosts at the Strath Creek Progress Association to all attendees that took part.’
