Walk for Respect 2025
Next date: Friday, 28 November 2025 | 11:00 AM
Council and the Rotary Club of Alexandra are hosting the Walk for Respect to bring our community together, take a stand against domestic and family violence, and promote safety, equality and respect for all. Every step we take is for those impacted, and for the future we are working to build.
Respect is building healthy, equal relationships and making it clear that violence is never acceptable. It is about speaking up when something harmful happens, role modelling positive behaviour, and recognising that each of us can help prevent violence.
Reports of family violence in our Shire are rising, highlighting the urgent need for community awareness and collective action to create safer homes and respectful relationships.
The event begins with a talk from Vincent Care about the gendered nature of family violence and how we can all play a role in ending it, followed by a 1.5 km community walk along the UT Creek path. Afterwards, we’ll gather at Rotary Park for a relaxed community get-together with support service stalls, barbeque lunch, light refreshments and a welcoming, positive atmosphere.
Wear purple and bring your friends and family. Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead.
About Vincent Care
Marie Murfet has led the Hume Community Hub for seven years, supporting victim survivors across Murrindindi Shire through after-hours family violence responses. The team has recently expanded to offer support during business hours, making services more accessible. She is joined by Alison Maclean, a systems expert in family violence and founder of 3whitehorses, who is supporting the team as they grow their presence in the region.
If your community group or business would like to take part by hosting a stall, sharing resources, small tokens of care, or simply connecting with participants, contact Ian Smith from the Rotary Club of Alexandra on 0419 581 617.
