This week marks National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. It is a time to recognise the people who give their time to support others and strengthen our community.

Across our Shire, volunteers contribute in countless ways. From supporting community groups and local events to helping neighbours and sustaining essential services, their impact is felt every day.

This year, that contribution carries even greater meaning. As our community continues to recover from the January fires, volunteers have played a critical role in response and recovery, while others have continued the everyday work that keeps our community connected and supported.

Although we are not hosting our usual gala event, the importance of this week remains the same. It is a moment to pause and recognise the collective effort that builds a strong, inclusive, and resilient community.

The theme Your Year to Volunteer is both a thank you and an invitation. It acknowledges those already contributing and encourages others to take part in ways that suit their interests, skills, and availability.
