This year the conference will focus on child safety. Changes in early learning are currently a major topic of discussion, and keeping children safe remains a central focus of our work with children and families. To support understanding of the Child Safe Standards, the newly appointed Commissioner for Children and Young People, Tracy Beaton, will present as the keynote speaker. Commissioner Beaton will share her experience in child mental health and child protection, and discuss the challenges of her new role and how recent changes will benefit children. What happens after a report is made to Child Protection or police? Workers in early childhood services rarely receive follow up after making a report. To explore this issue, the conference will host a panel of experts. The panel will be facilitated by Catharine Hydon and will include representatives from Maternal and Child Health, a Koorie Engagement Support Officer, Hayley Carter from DFFH Child Protection, and Jennifer Parker from the Benalla SOCIT team. The day will conclude with the return of Robyn Papworth. She will guide participants through a range of activities designed to help regulate children who need additional support. This session will allow participants to experience the activities themselves and reflect on ways to support their own wellbeing while working in challenging environments.
