Bird Homes - From Twigs to Nest Boxes

Council is hosting a Birds in the Backyard webinar during the Aussie Bird Count (19-25 October 2026).

This engaging talk will explore the fascinating world of bird nests, nesting materials and nest boxes – from twigs and feathers to some surprisingly clever materials birds collect from their surroundings.

Participants will discover the materials birds use to build the nests, understand how nest boxes can provide additional nesting opportunities, become more curious about the birds living around them, and learn how they can participate in the Aussie Bird Count, 19-25 Oct 2026.

Join online or at Alexandra Council Chambers, Kinglake Library or Yea Library to share the broadcast in the company of others and learn to use the app for the Great Aussie Bird Count.

The session will be led by well-known local amateur naturalist and guide at the Yea Wetlands Ron Litjens. Light refreshments will be provided for in-person attendees.
