Replanting gardens and properties

Before planting

  • Wait and see what regrows naturally
  • Focus first on erosion control and weeds
  • Check you are not planting an environmental weed, for example Agapanthus

When you do plant

  • Use local native species where possible
  • Autumn and winter are the best planting times
  • Mulch well and water sparingly but deeply
  • Guard against browsers (pests such as deer and rabbits, and natives such as wallabies and kangaroos)

Gardens near homes

  • Consider fire‑aware landscaping - there is fantastic information on the CFA website.
  • Keep vegetation spaced and maintained
  • Avoid dense planting close to buildings

Council can help direct you to suitable local species, native plant suppliers and advice. You can also find a handy Revegetation Guide on the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GBCMA) website.
