Replanting gardens and properties
Before planting
- Wait and see what regrows naturally
- Focus first on erosion control and weeds
- Check you are not planting an environmental weed, for example Agapanthus
When you do plant
- Use local native species where possible
- Autumn and winter are the best planting times
- Mulch well and water sparingly but deeply
- Guard against browsers (pests such as deer and rabbits, and natives such as wallabies and kangaroos)
Gardens near homes
- Consider fire‑aware landscaping - there is fantastic information on the CFA website.
- Keep vegetation spaced and maintained
- Avoid dense planting close to buildings
Council can help direct you to suitable local species, native plant suppliers and advice. You can also find a handy Revegetation Guide on the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GBCMA) website.
