Road access and closures

Please note, the Road Management Plan remains suspended and will be reviewed periodically for these roads.

Road conditions in fire‑affected areas remain hazardous. Drive with care, follow all road signs and utilise VicTraffic for current advice.

Firewood collection is not permitted on any of these roads for safety and environmental reasons, personal roadside firewood collection will not be permitted within fire‑affected areas until September 2026.

Council is processing fire affected trees from these roads into usable firewood. Eligible residents will be able to collect firewood through a managed process once it is ready.

Council has put in place a classification system to support authorised use of roads that have been impacted by the Longwood Fire, while they remain closed to the public. This ensures that we can undertake the necessary tree management and traffic safety works while allowing for our residents to access critical services.

Classification	Description
Open - Unrestricted	Road is safe and fully accessible to all users
Open - Restricted	Road is open under traffic management restrictions due to damage or hazards
Road Closed – Authorised Access (local traffic only)	Road is accessible only to certain users or under specific conditions (e.g. resident access only, daylight hours)
Road Closed - No Access	Road is unsafe and closed to all traffic and pedestrians. Emergency Vehicles exception
Conditional Access	Where appropriate - access allowed with notification of Council or under Council supervision

Road Closed – Authorised Access only

The road can be accessed at reduced speed, during daytime hours only for the following purposes:

• Emergency response
• Residents – for access to property
• Fire Impact Assessment & Recovery Services (Council, Agencies & Insurance)
• Essential Services – Power, Water, Clean-up,
• Primary Production/ farming support purposes (fodder, fencing, contractors, vets)
• Domestic Bin Collection
• Commercial waste collection including septic tank servicing

Nighttime usage is discouraged and users do so at their own risk.

Some roads may have additions heavy vehicle restrictions in place. Note that articulated vehicles of any class may not be suitable for many of the roads under Authorised Access due to road damage. Please check with Council before attempting to access these roads.
