The Fire Danger Period will begin in Murrindindi Shire at 1.00 am on Monday 19 December 2022. It's time for you to prepare your property ahead of the fire season:

There are a range of things you can do to prepare your property, including:

  • Clean gutters and keep them clear of leaf litter.
  • Keep grass cut to less than 10cm and keep woodpiles stored away from your house.
  • Clean up dry leaves, twigs, loose bark and prune shrubs.
  • Safely cut overhanging branches within 10m of your home and store flammable liquids away from your house.
  • Rural property owners - Keep grass cut or cut a 10m fire break around the perimeter around your property boundary where safe to do so.

To help residents prepare their property, Council is offering free green waste disposal at our Resource Recovery Centres until 31 December 2022.

Understanding Warnings

You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave.  Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes.

Warnings are issued when a fire has started and you need to take action.

Make sure you understand the three levels of warnings and what they mean. The three levels of warnings are

  • Advice
  • Watch and Act
  • Emergency Warning

Don't expect warnings to be issued in any particular order. The first warning you could get could be an Emergency Warning.
